# AI Image Editing

Edit images with natural-language instructions. Describe changes to existing images, from removing objects and changing backgrounds to restyling the overall look.

## What can I edit?

Depending on the selected editing tool or model, you can:

* Add, remove, or replace an object.
* Change a background or setting.
* Adjust clothing, colors, or visual details.
* Restyle an image while using the original as a reference.

For a new image loosely guided by an existing picture, use [Image to Image](https://docs.seaart.ai/guide-1/2-seaart-ai-basic-function/2-2-image-to-image). For a specific change to an existing picture, start with Image Editing.

## Choose an editing method

### 1. Edit a generated image

After generating an image, open its Work Details page and choose **Edit Image** from the Edit panel. This lets you continue from the generated result instead of uploading the image again.

Describe the change, check the available options and displayed cost, then generate a new version. The available entries can vary by work and tool.

| Task                     | What it does                                                              |
| ------------------------ | ------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
| Remove a background | Removes the background and separates the subject for a clean cutout. |
| Improve image quality | Restores detail and sharpness in a soft or low-resolution image. |
| Erase an unwanted object | Removes a selected object and fills the surrounding area. |
| Repaint part of an image | Redraws a selected area using the rest of the image as a reference. |
| Expand the image frame | Extends the image beyond its original frame with new surrounding content. |

### 2. Use the Image Editing AI App

Open the Image Editing AI App, upload your image, and describe the changes you want in plain language. This is the quickest way to edit an image without having to choose a model yourself.

If prompted, sign in to SeaArt. Make sure you have permission to upload and edit the image. Review the preview, then follow the instructions and available controls in the app.

## Prompt examples

| Your goal               | Example instruction                                                                                                       |
| ----------------------- | ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
| Remove a distraction | Remove the empty bottle beside the chair. Reconstruct the visible floor naturally. Keep the chair and wall unchanged. |
| Replace an object | Replace the round cushion with a square yellow cushion. Keep its position on the chair and preserve the rest of the room. |
| Change clothing | Change the person's gray jacket to a dark green jacket. Keep the face, pose, hairstyle, and background unchanged. |
| Change the visual style | Reinterpret this street scene as a colored-pencil illustration. Retain the main buildings, viewpoint, and composition. |

## Describe the change

Use this structure:

**What to change + the desired result + what to keep**

For example:

```
Replace the plain wall behind the chair with a pale green wall.
Keep the chair's shape, fabric, position, and the camera angle unchanged.
Keep the lighting soft and natural.
```

Be specific about the target. "Replace the wall behind the chair" is clearer than "Improve the background."

Use preservation instructions as a request, not a guarantee. Check the result even when your prompt asks the model to keep a face, product, or composition unchanged.ommon questions

## Common questions

### Can generative editing replace Photoshop?

Not entirely. It is better at content changes — removing, replacing, extending. Traditional editing remains better for precise tonal and colour work.

### Why did the shadow stay after I removed an object?

The instruction named the object, not its shadow. Name both, or run a second pass on the shadow.

### Can I make multiple edits at once?

You can, but stacked instructions interfere. Sequential single edits give more predictable results.
