# Image to Image

Use an existing image as the starting point for generation - ideal for changing styles, replacing backgrounds, refining details, or keeping a composition while exploring new variations.

## What Is Image to Image?

Image to Image lets you create new images using an existing picture as a reference, guided by your text prompt. It's useful when you want to change an image's style, try a different background, refine details, or explore new variations while building on the original image.

Upload a reference image, describe the changes you want, and let AI generate a new version.

## How to Use Image to Image

1. **Choose a model.** Open the [SeaArt ](https://www.seaart.ai/)creation workspace and select a model that fits your goal.
2. **Upload a reference image.** Click the image icon in the prompt input box and choose an image from your device.
3. **Describe the changes.** Write a prompt explaining what you want to change, such as the style, background, lighting, or colors. Mention important details you want to keep.
4. **Generate and refine.** Generate the image and review the result. Adjust your prompt or settings if you want to try a different version.

## What Should You Write in the Prompt?

Keep your instructions clear and specific. You don't need to describe every detail of the reference image. Focus on the changes you want and the elements that should remain.

### Example 1: Change the Art Style

Upload a photo and ask AI to restyle it while keeping the main subject recognizable.

```
Keep the person's pose and clothing. Restyle the image as a soft watercolor illustration with warm natural light and a simple background.
```

### Example 2: Change the Background

Use a portrait or product image as the reference.

```
Keep the main subject clear and recognizable. Place it in a sunlit garden with soft shadows, natural colors, and a clean editorial look.
```

### Need Help Writing a Prompt?

If you have a reference image but aren't sure how to describe it, try the **Creation Assistant** on the right side of the creation workspace. Upload an image that shows the kind of result you want and ask the assistant to analyze it and suggest a prompt.

**Try this prompt:**

```
Analyze the uploaded image and write a detailed prompt to recreate a similar image.
```

Review the suggested prompt and adjust it to match your goal before generating. The suggested description is a starting point, so you can edit it whenever needed.

### Tips for Better Results

* **Start with a clear image.** A sharp reference with a visible subject gives the model a better starting point.
* **Say what should stay.** If the subject, pose, or composition matters, include that in your prompt.
* **Make changes step by step.** If the result changes too much, simplify your instructions or try a different model.
* **Experiment with models.** Different models may interpret the same image and prompt differently, so results can vary.

### Image to Image vs. Text to Image

Text to Image creates an image from a text prompt. Image to Image starts with an uploaded reference, giving the model visual information to work from. Use [Image to Image](https://www.seaart.ai/create/image) when you want to build on an existing photo, design, or composition rather than start from text alone.
